Why a normal clean isn't enough after building work

Renovations leave more than visible mess. Fine plaster and cement dust settles into extractor vents, light fittings, skirting boards and the inside of cupboards — often invisible until it's disturbed weeks later. Paint splatter, adhesive residue and sealant smears need different tools and technique to remove safely without damaging surfaces underneath.

• Bathrooms: tiles and grout lines, sealant residue, fixtures, mirrors, extractor fan
• Floors: full dust extraction before mopping — sweeping alone just moves fine dust around
• Skirting boards & frames: paint splatter and dust build-up along every edge
• Windows & sills: inside glass, frames and tracks, often full of construction dust

DIY vs. hiring a professional

A small touch-up (one repainted wall, a single new fixture) is reasonable to handle yourself. A full renovation, extension or new kitchen/bathroom fit is a different scale of job — fine construction dust is genuinely unpleasant to breathe in large quantities, and proper dust extraction equipment does a materially better job than a household vacuum. If you're moving back in with young children, pets or anyone with respiratory sensitivities, a professional clean is worth it on health grounds alone.
